Raw Velocity

What do we pretend to know?

The world moves so fast

And we’ve had new fears to contend with,

Being left on the wrong side of the road

Seeing everyone else having a good time,

And you’re still figuring out how

We found ourselves in this mess,

Pretending it was a party,

But it is a good world

If you can bear the raw velocity

Long enough to take a breath

Eyes burning

Hands callused

Heart hardened and opened

At the same time

All now is love

Smile as we tiptoe through the trees

Looking for a shadow to kiss beneath,

My book Until She Sings is out now.
