Sleeper

It isn’t

I hide

But I know

The world is

Interested in

What I offer

Not who I am

So staying awake

Even when my eyes

Burn with seeing too

Much

Too much understanding

And I’ve long since

Let go of the idea

Of any extrinsic reward

Just me

But the opposition has been

Great and I’ve risen

To each challenge

Even when I’ve sought

Somewhere else

A quiet place to howl

Like a motherfucker

But there’s no shame in

Bearing the pain

So long as you show your

Teeth

And when I shake with passion

It’s enough

To wake the dead

But mostly

I smile

Stay awake

Too much to do

Too much to do

And I will win

Because I’ve been

Awake for so long

And the dreams don’t

Give themselves form

Only I

Can

Do

That
