A Heart’s Summer

A damp, cold morning,

It never touches me,

Past the coat,

Some parts of me,

Kept in other places,

Suspended in the amber of

Memories,

Still, I am certain motion,

Purpose and determination,

No pleas made to the indifferent

Universe because I make

My own world,

I make my way through the rain,

For in my heart,

It is a summer,

Sit with me beneath the

Trees,

Rest your  cheek against my chest,

Close your eyes,

I wait for you there,

Calm and patient,

Listening to the birdsong,

Sweeter than the rain.
