The animal in the cave

Held tight,

The world outside

Would roar on

Without us

Nestled against my fur,

Safe and warm,

When I leave, it’s with

You keeping a piece of me,

For safekeeping,

There are beasts to slay,

Food and skins to gather,

And so, bear the scent of me,

The tang of my flesh,

On your lips,

I’ve chosen your clothes

And you will act with my

Instructions,

For I am swift to discipline,

Animated by the

Urge to protect you,

Even from yourself,

To coax the best of you,

By my command and protection,

I go forth but feel sweetness

At the anticipation

Of my return,

To hold you hard enough to

Make it ache.
