How We Animals Sleep

Your skin dreams of me

I whispered my intentions

To every pore

Magic words which floated

Through you

Calling to light

All you found whilst clearing up

After the storm you were

I am dichotomous

Deliberate and informed

Passion because, baby girl,

I fuck and make it hurt,

The good aches which

Glow when you awake

And when I’ve shaken you

Stirred you into feral, feline

And how each time

See me

All your stars aligned

And with a light so bright,

A darkness so deep,

You look at me and see reflected

The same divinity, couched

In action

And afterwards, cling to me,

Our animal silences,

Deepening into slumber

Where even the dreams fall short

Against my reality.
