Mixtape

It arrives

In the mail

You recognise

The handwriting

The tape is warm in your

Hands

Press play

Because this is

How he expresses

Feelings too large

For words

He could write

That he loves

Misses you

But you know

When you press your

Fingers against the words

He’s written

And he tells you

Shows you

Each time

You

Press

Play

An incredibly powerful example of communication. And one that is fraught with the danger of getting it wrong because the message being conveyed isn’t being done solely by your chosen weapon of choice: words. I am drawn to the potential difference between the lyrics, and what they convey to the recipient of the mixtape; and the visual information being displayed to us in the visuals. For example: FKA twigs video contains images that are initially a cause for concern yet fit perfectly in context. Relationships are possessed of inherent dangers, and your choice of video representing the perception of those is brilliant.
I hope this is something you will experiment with further.
PS. Thanks for reuniting me with John Mayer. Beautiful.
