Candied, Twilit Kisses

The soft roar of the traffic

Birds singing overhead

You in my arms,

The gentle tides of your breathing

A pleasure to hear

Upon the opening of consciousness

To another day

I would read aloud

The poems

And stories that bloomed

In the bones of my night’s dreaming

To you

Serve you with candied, twilit kisses

Let me take you

Something of you

Out into the world

Before the day begins

Even the sight of you

Unadorned is still

A sigil of beauty

To ward off the worst

Of days

Let my love

Bathe you in heated silence

Awaken and know

Only

Me
